Ep. 068 - Brian Craig

Brian Craig is the founder of Brian Craig Golf, where helps golfers perform at the highest level. Prior to starting Brian Craig Golf, Coach Craig was the Head Coach of UK Men’s Golf, where he coached multiple players who have gone on to play at the next level, including J.B. Holmes. Brian played golf at the University of Florida, where he was a member of 2 SEC Championship teams and 3 NCAA Championship teams that finished in the Top 7. You can find more about his new endeavor at https://www.briancraiggolf.com/.

Despite being a successful junior player, Coach Craig struggled when he entered college and didn't handle it well. He admits that he fell away from practicing and working hard, succumbing to the temptations of college life. However, he eventually got back on track and finished his college career on a positive note. Coach Craig's story highlights the fact that slumps are a natural part of life. Whether it's in sports, academics, or any other endeavor, everyone goes through periods of difficulty and setbacks. It's how we respond to these slumps that determines our future success.

According to Brian, junior players who aspire to attend prestigious schools must participate in the best tournaments available to them. This provides them with valuable experience and exposure, which can ultimately lead to breakthrough opportunities. Coach Craig emphasizes that a player's swing or technique is not as important as their ability to perform well in high-pressure situations. If a player can excel in big tournaments, they can also excel in the college golf scene. While a player's performance record is crucial, Coach Craig also believes in considering intangibles and projecting a player's potential. He looks for players who have room for growth physically and mentally. For example, he mentions Alex Goff, a player with great technique but limited experience. Brian believed that with time, added muscle, and refinement, Alex could become an exceptional golfer. This prediction turned out to be accurate, as Alex's skills improved over time and he has become a great collegiate golfer.
